Saturday Paint Party!

Members of the WHEO staff sharpened our painting skills (or tried to lean some) Saturday, Apr. 28th. The WHEO Relay for Life team, The Kilowatts for a Cure in Memory of Sandra Rogers, painted the interior of the radio station (the fron office) as we seek to spruce up the radio station for our upcoming "12 Hours for a Cure" radio-thon and public open house on Friday, May 18th, at our 3824 Wayside Road studios. All proceeds from the day-long, sunrise to sunset, radio fundraiser will go the the American Cancer Society as our team's contribution to the Patrick County Relay for Life event for 2007.

On the day of the radio-thon, WHEO will suspend normal radio programming to focus the community's attention on a most worthwhile cause, the fight against cancer and the ongoing effort to find a cure for this dreaded disease, provide services to cancer victims and caregivers, and educate the public on cancer prevention. During the radio-thon, we will ask listeners to call in and make tax deductible donations to aid in the war on cancer. We will share the stories of cancer survirors on our community and present a full day of live entertainment featuring many local entertainers who will donate their time and talents to this cause. Plans call for a different local musical artist or group to perform every half hour from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. As part of this effort we will open the doors of the radio station to the public and invite listeners to visit the station sometime during this 12 hour open house. Free food and refreshments will be provide to those attending courtesy of WHEO and business who are supporting our efforts to fight cancer.

The WHEO team, the Kilowatts for a Cure, invites everyone to attend our open house, listen to the radio-thon on the air, and contribute to our fundraising effort as you feel led to do. Since parking may be an issue because of the anticipated large crowd of people (the public, performing musicians, and Relay for Life volunteer workers), we have received permission from tthe nearby Wayside Community Church to allow us to use their parking facilities if necessary. Thanks to Rev. Bernard Handy and his congregation for their support. In that case, we will provide a continuous shuttle service from the church to the radio station and vice versa for the convenience and safety of those who want to come to the open house. Also because of the focus on fighting cancer,on May 18th, WHEO office operations and the Verizon office of Mountain View Communications will be closed that one day so that we can devote our full attention to the task at hand, helping to rid our community and the world of cancer. We look forward to welcoming citizens, listeners, and the public at large as we alljoin together in a commuity wide effort to aid the fight against cancer.

Stay tuned to WHEO for details on the radio-thon including a schedule of on-air performances by the many local singers and musicians who are supporting WHEO in its efforts to make this years's American Cancer Society Relay for Life a success. Thank your all in advance for your support to this effort. We look forward to seeing you in person or talking to you on the phone during "12 Hours for a Cure," on Friday, May 18th from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 1270 AM-WHEO, the Heart of Patrick County! Mark you calenders for May 18th!

Please pray for our radio-thon, the Relay for Life event (the following day at DeHart Park, Stuart), and for those who are affected cancer as victims, as caregivers, and as a community. May God bless our efforts!

Yours in love and service,
Richard

P.S. The newly painted front office of WHEO looks great. Thanks to our staff for the team effort to freshen up the station before our open house.
